Over 9000 Passenger Traffic in a single day at Coimbatore International Airport; Calls for More Direct Flights Intensify

Over 9,000 passengers traveled via Coimbatore International Airport on April 5, 2024, prompting demands for direct flights to Dubai, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, and better connectivity to Delhi's T3 terminal.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore International Airport witnessed a surge in passenger traffic with over nine thousand passengers utilizing the airport on April 5, 2024. Amidst this record usage, there is a growing demand for enhanced connectivity from the city’s populace. The specific demands include the introduction of direct flight services to international destinations such as Dubai, Doha, and Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, there is a call for direct flights to connect with the T3 International terminal at Delhi during the morning and evening hours.

Furthermore, there is an urgent plea for the commencement of the airport expansion project at the earliest to accommodate the increasing traffic. On the mentioned date, the airport saw domestic flight movements of 25 arrivals and 25 departures with 4,111 arriving passengers and 4,208 departing. Internationally, the airport handled 2 arrivals and 2 departures, with 392 passengers arriving and 390 departing, signaling a robust demand for international travel.

The surge in passenger numbers is a strong indicator of Coimbatore’s growing importance as a travel hub and reflects the necessity for swift enhancements in its aviation infrastructure and services.
