Ban on Slaughter and Sale of Meat in Coimbatore on Mahaveer Jayanti

In observance of Mahaveer Jayanti, a ban on the slaughter and sale of meat will be enforced in Coimbatore on April 21, 2024. Specific slaughterhouses will also remain closed.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu government has announced a prohibition on the slaughter and sale of meat on April 21, 2024, coinciding with Mahaveer Jayanti. This decision affects all meat shops within the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation limits, including those selling beef, pork, chicken, and mutton. Additionally, operational slaughterhouses in Ukkadam, Sakti Road, and Pothanur of Coimbatore will remain closed for the day.

Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS has emphasized that strict action will be taken against any violators of this regulation. This measure is aimed at respecting the sentiments associated with the festival celebrated by the Jain community.
