District Education Officer Fined for Non-Appearance in Court

In Coimbatore, a retired teacher filed a petition for unpaid salary incentives. Despite summons, the District Education Officer failed to appear in court, resulting in a Rs. 20,000 fine.


Coimbatore: A retired teacher from Sulur, Coimbatore, 74-year-old Balasundaram, had filed a petition in the Coimbatore Permanent Lok Adalat alleging that he was not paid salary incentives during his tenure. The District Education Officer was summoned twice to appear before the court to explain, but failed to do so.

Following the non-appearance, Judge Narayanan of the Permanent Lok Adalat imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on the District Education Officer on April 24. Additionally, the court ordered that the fine must be paid to the Chief Justice's relief fund at the Chennai High Court within two weeks from the date of the order.
