YouTuber Savukku Shankar Transferred to Madurai for Ganja Case Hearing

Savukku Shankar, the YouTuber, was transferred to Madurai by Theni police for a ganja case hearing after allegations of defamation and inappropriate remarks against police officers.

Coimbatore: In recent developments, YouTuber Savukku Shankar was brought to Madurai from the Coimbatore Central Jail by Theni police for a hearing in a ganja case. The move dated May 8, 2024, follows his previous custody related to separate charges including defamation toward police personnel.

The controversy started when Sub-Inspector Suganya from the Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police lodged a complaint against Savukku Shankar. Allegations were made concerning his comments in a YouTube interview, which were deemed defamatory towards police officials and included inappropriate remarks about female police officers.

Following the complaint, several charges were registered against Savukku Shankar under five different sections, leading to his initial arrest by the Cyber Crime Police near Theni in Palanisettipatti. He was subsequently detained in Coimbatore Central Jail.

Adding to the complications, Savukku Shankar was involved in an accident near Tirupur during his earlier transfer from Theni to Coimbatore. Consequently, this time, measures were taken to ensure a safer transport, which included multiple test runs to prevent another accident.

Shankar is now awaiting the proceedings in a special court dealing with narcotics in Madurai, as facilitated by the police escort.
