A 27-year-old man, Senthil, from Arumuga Goundanur in Coimbatore, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, following a pretense of marriage.
Coimbatore: In a distressing case from Coimbatore, a 27-year-old man named Senthil, hailing from Arumuga Goundanur, has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the sexual assault and kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl. The accused allegedly developed a friendship with the victim, a resident of the same area, and later kidnapped her under the pretense of marriage before committing the assault.
The incident came to light after the girl's father lodged a complaint at the Women's Police Station. Police charged Senthil under the POCSO Act and took him into custody after thorough investigation confirmed the abduction and assault.
The case was subsequently heard at the Coimbatore POCSO Special Court, where following the conclusion of the trial, on May 24, Judge Kulashekaran delivered the verdict. Senthil was found guilty and apart from the prison term, he was also fined Rs. 15,000. Additionally, the court directed the government to compensate the victim with Rs. 4 lakhs for her ordeal.
Following the verdict, Senthil was taken to the Coimbatore Central Prison with police escort.
