Coimbatore: Dr. Chandrasekhar, an orthopedic specialist residing in an apartment in Saibaba Colony, became the victim of a sophisticated scam involving individuals posing as CBI officers.
The 70-year-old doctor received a call from someone claiming to be speaking from Delhi, informing him about a suspicious parcel in his name containing illegal substances. Subsequently, another impersonator contacted him, demanding his immediate presence in Delhi for clarification regarding the alleged drug parcel under the threat of arrest.
Alarmed and convinced by the authority of the callers, Dr. Chandrasekhar was coerced into believing that his innocence could be proven only by transferring Rs 39,74,025 to a specified bank account.
