Coimbatore Achieves Record by Loading 5 Tons of Cargo on Passenger Flight

In a collaborative effort at Coimbatore, 5 tons of cargo was successfully loaded onto a passenger aircraft, marking a notable achievement according to officials.

Coimbatore: In an impressive logistical feat, Coimbatore's aviation sector has set a new record by loading 5 tons of cargo onto a passenger aircraft. This was made possible through well-coordinated planning and collaborative efforts, as stated by airport authorities. Typically, passenger flights only handle lighter cargo, making this achievement significant.

Officials highlighted that the Coimbatore airport usually offers flights to just two international destinations, Sharjah and Singapore. Typically, each flight accommodates up to 168 passengers, but there are days when fewer seats are booked. On June 7, a Sharjah-bound flight carried only 100 passengers, providing an opportunity to load additional cargo. Consequently, airport staff planned meticulously to utilize the available space more efficiently, resulting in the transportation of goods including textiles and industrial products intended for export. While such flights usually carry up to 3.5 tons, the collaborative efforts on this occasion allowed for an additional 1.5 tons, totaling 5 tons.

This cargo loading initiative is part of a broader trend at the Coimbatore airport, where monthly cargo handling in the domestic sector averages between 150 to 980 tons, including exports of vegetables, textiles, and engineering goods. In March, combined domestic and international cargo exceeded 1,000 tons, showcasing the growing capacity and operational efficiency at the airport.
