A 49-year-old painter fell to his death while working in Kurichi, Coimbatore. In a separate incident, a 33-year-old auto driver committed suicide due to health issues. Police are investigating both cases.
Coimbatore: Two tragic incidents have been reported in Coimbatore, involving the death of a painter and the suicide of an auto driver.
Selvaraj (49), a painter from Puliakkulam Sirukaliamman Kovil Street, had been working with his son Chandru (26) on a painting job at a house in Kurichi area for the past 15 days. On July 22, while Selvaraj was on a ladder painting, he lost his balance and fell. He suffered severe head injuries in the fall.
Neighbors rushed to his aid and called for an ambulance to take him to Coimbatore Government Hospital. However, doctors at the hospital declared that Selvaraj had died en route. Following this, Chandru filed a complaint with the Ramanathapuram police.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the house owner, Muhammad Ameer (43) from Kurichi Alagu Nagar, and the building contractor, Chinnapparaj (52), for allegedly employing the worker without proper safety equipment. The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate incident, Krishnaraj (33), an auto driver from Kempatti Colony in Coimbatore, was found dead in his home on July 22. Krishnaraj had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness and was reportedly under severe mental stress in recent days.
Distressed by his health condition, Krishnaraj took the extreme step of ending his life by hanging himself at his residence. The Kadeiveedhi police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
These two unrelated incidents have cast a somber mood over the city, highlighting the importance of workplace safety and mental health awareness.
