Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District DMK staged a massive protest on Saturday, July 27, at Thadagam ground in Sivananda Colony, condemning the BJP-led central government for neglecting Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget.

The demonstration, which began at 10:00 AM, was led by Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar and witnessed the participation of over 5,000 DMK members and supporters.

The protest was organized by the Integrated Coimbatore District DMK, with N. Karthik (ex-MLA and Coimbatore City District Secretary), Tho. A. Ravi (North District Secretary), and Thalapathy Murugesan (South District Secretary) presiding over the event.

Former ministers Kanappan and Pongalur Palanisamy were among the prominent attendees. The protesters raised slogans against the central government, accusing it of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards Tamil Nadu and ignoring the demands put forth by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin.

The demonstration saw participation from various levels of the party hierarchy, including district-level executives, central committee members, union, zonal, and branch secretaries. Representatives from municipal corporations, municipalities, town panchayats, and rural local bodies were also present. The crowd included members from all party wings, BLA-2, and booth committee members.

The DMK accused the BJP government of completely disregarding the requests made by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in the Union Budget, thereby "betraying" the state. The protest aimed to voice the party's strong disapproval of the central government's alleged neglect of Tamil Nadu's interests in budget allocations and overall development.
