Youth Killed by Train While Talking on Phone Near Singanallur, Coimbatore

A 22-year-old youth was fatally struck by a train near Singanallur, Coimbatore, while talking on his mobile phone with earphones on. The incident occurred on July 30, highlighting the dangers of distracted walking near railway tracks.


Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a young man lost his life after being hit by a train while talking on his mobile phone near Singanallur, Coimbatore. The accident occurred on the morning of July 30 near the railway tracks close to SIHS Colony in Ramanujam Nagar.

Railway Police received information about a body found on the tracks and rushed to the scene. Sub-Inspector Manoharan and his team recovered the body and initiated an investigation to identify the deceased.

During the search, police found a wallet and an ATM card near the tracks. Using this information, they contacted a local bank and identified the victim as Ashwin Kumar (22) from Sowripalayam, Coimbatore.

Further investigation revealed that Ashwin Kumar was walking along the tracks with earphones on, engrossed in a phone conversation. Unaware of the approaching train, he was struck and killed instantly.

The police have sent Ashwin Kumar's body to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. This incident has created a stir in the area, serving as a grim reminder of the dangers of using mobile phones and earphones near railway tracks.

The tragedy underscores the importance of staying alert and avoiding distractions while walking in potentially hazardous areas. Local authorities are likely to intensify awareness campaigns about railway safety in light of this unfortunate event.
