Coimbatore: In a significant event at the Coimbatore District Police Office, 504 lost mobile phones valued at approximately ₹94 lakh were returned to their rightful owners. District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan personally handed over the recovered devices and presented certificates to the team involved in the recovery operation.
Superintendent Badri Narayanan stated, "Since 2022, we have established a special team dedicated to recovering lost mobile phones. To date, we have successfully returned about 2300 lost phones to their owners." He further revealed that in the past three years alone, mobile phones worth ₹3.70 crore have been recovered.

This year, out of 1100 CSRs (Complaint Status Reports) filed, 504 mobile phones have been recovered so far. The police are actively working on retrieving the remaining devices. The success of this initiative highlights the department's commitment to public service and property recovery.
Regarding cybercrime, Narayanan reported that 84 FIRs have been registered this year, resulting in the recovery of ₹1.20 crore, which has been returned to the victims. He emphasized that most cybercrimes are financially motivated and urged the public to refrain from clicking on suspicious links.

The Superintendent also addressed other critical issues. In drug-related cases, 242 kg of cannabis have been seized this year, with 13 individuals booked under the Goondas Act. The police have also dismantled 10 groups involved in interstate cannabis trafficking.
Concerning POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases, 139 cases were registered until June 30, with charge sheets filed in 135 cases and convictions secured in 10 cases. Narayanan mentioned the ongoing 'Project Pallikoodam' initiative, which has helped prevent over 500 minor offenses in schools during the 2022-2023 academic year by raising awareness about POCSO.
This comprehensive approach by the Coimbatore Police demonstrates their commitment to tackling various forms of crime while prioritizing public safety and property recovery.
