CM Stalin to Inaugurate ₹1,800 Crore Athikadavu-Avinashi Water Project on August 17

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will inaugurate the ₹1,800 crore Athikadavu-Avinashi Water Project on August 17. The project aims to irrigate 24,450 acres across Erode, Coimbatore, and Tirupur districts.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to inaugurate the ambitious Athikadavu-Avinashi Water Project on August 17. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1,800 crore, is designed to irrigate 24,450 acres of land across Erode, Coimbatore, and Tirupur districts by pumping water from the Bhavani River to over 1,050 water bodies.

The Athikadavu-Avinashi project is expected to enrich 1,045 ponds across the three districts, significantly boosting the region's irrigation capabilities. This large-scale initiative aims to address water scarcity issues and improve agricultural productivity in the area.

The project features six pumping stations located at various sites, including Nallagavundanpalayam and Thiruvarur. A notable technological enhancement in the project is the implementation of solar-powered outlight sensor systems in the ponds. These systems, installed on concrete floors, can be monitored and controlled remotely by engineers from a central location.

The advanced monitoring system allows engineers to use computers to determine the appropriate amount of water to be released based on the existing water levels in the ponds. This precise control mechanism ensures efficient water management and distribution throughout the project area.

The Athikadavu-Avinashi Water Project represents a significant step towards modernizing irrigation infrastructure in the region. By harnessing technology and utilizing renewable energy sources, the project aims to provide a sustainable solution to the water needs of farmers in Erode, Coimbatore, and Tirupur districts.
