Lawyers Form Human Chain in Coimbatore Demanding Withdrawal of New Criminal Laws

Lawyers in Coimbatore staged a human chain protest outside the Integrated Court Complex, demanding the withdrawal of three new criminal laws implemented by the central government.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Lawyers' Association staged a human chain protest in front of the Integrated Court Complex in Coimbatore, demanding the withdrawal of three new criminal laws implemented by the central government. Over 50 lawyers participated in the demonstration, raising slogans and holding banners urging the repeal of these laws.

Balakrishnan, President of the Coimbatore Bar Association, stated, "Since July 1, we have conducted various protests including rail blockades, central government office sieges, hunger strikes, and demonstrations in Delhi, calling for the withdrawal of these three new criminal laws."

He further explained, "Today, human chain protests are taking place across Tamil Nadu demanding the repeal of these criminal laws. These laws are against the public and favorable to the police force. That's why we are conducting this human chain protest today."

Balakrishnan added, "Next month, on the 30th, there is a possibility of a massive nationwide protest after convening the JAAC (Joint Action Against CAA-NRC-NPR) general body meeting."

The lawyers' association views these new laws as detrimental to public interests and overly favorable to law enforcement agencies. The protest in Coimbatore is part of a larger statewide movement, reflecting the legal community's concerns about the potential implications of these new criminal laws on justice and civil liberties.
