30 kg of Gutka Seized from Petty Shop Near Vellalore, Coimbatore; Two Arrested

Police seized 30 kg of banned tobacco products (gutka) from a petty shop near Vellalore, Coimbatore. Two individuals were arrested for selling the contraband.


Coimbatore: In a crackdown on illegal tobacco products, the Podanur police seized 30 kg of banned gutka from a petty shop near Vellalore in Coimbatore on Wednesday (Aug 30). Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

Sub-Inspector Rakkiyappan of the Podanur police station conducted a surprise inspection at a petty shop near the Puttrukanpalayam bridge in Vellalore. During the raid, the police discovered 30 kg of prohibited tobacco products (gutka) stashed in the shop.

The seized contraband was immediately confiscated by the police. Following the raid, two individuals involved in the sale of these banned substances were apprehended. The arrested persons have been identified as Ramesh (50) from Vellalore and Asarudeen (30) from Selvam Nagar, Kuniyamuthur.

The police also recovered a moped, a car, and additional tobacco products from the possession of the accused. The seized vehicles are believed to have been used for transporting and distributing the illegal goods.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Coimbatore police to curb the sale and distribution of banned tobacco products in the city. The authorities have warned of strict action against those involved in such illegal activities.
