BJP Leader Accuses Coimbatore Mayor of Attempting to Demolish Temple for Commission

BJP's industrial wing vice-president Selvakumar alleges Coimbatore's new mayor is trying to demolish an ancient Shiva temple near Aishwarya Lodge for commission, despite the petition not mentioning these claims.

Coimbatore: A controversy has erupted in Coimbatore as BJP's state industrial wing vice-president Selvakumar has accused the city's new mayor of attempting to demolish an ancient Shiva temple for personal gain. The allegations were made during a press interview following the submission of a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector's office.

Selvakumar, representing local residents, submitted a petition against Aishwarya Lodge in Ramalakshmi Nagar, alleging that the establishment is operating without proper permits and engaging in illegal activities. However, the accusations made during the subsequent press interview went beyond the scope of the written petition.

In his statement to the media, Selvakumar claimed that an ancient Shiva temple is located near Aishwarya Lodge in the Gold Wings area of Coimbatore. He alleged that the lodge is operating without any permission from the Corporation and is involved in illegal activities. Furthermore, he accused the lodge owner of attempting to demolish the temple with the support of the ruling party to create parking space for the lodge.

Selvakumar also implicated the previous mayor, Kalpana Anandakumar, stating that she had attempted to demolish the temple. He extended this accusation to the current mayor, claiming that they too are trying to demolish the temple for a commission on the potential sale of the lodge property.

The BJP leader mentioned that an RTI query revealed that the Corporation lacks documents proving permission was granted to the lodge. He warned that the BJP would mobilize the public to protest if any attempt is made to demolish the temple.

It is noteworthy that the petition submitted to the Collector's office only mentions the existence of the lodge and its alleged illegal operation. The document does not contain any references to the temple, the mayor's involvement, or attempts to demolish the religious structure.
