Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Junction has emerged as the busiest railway station in Coimbatore district for the financial year 2023-24, both in terms of passenger traffic and revenue generation. The station handled an impressive 1.02 crore passengers and generated a revenue of Rs 345 crore during this period.
Mettupalayam station secured the second position, catering to 16.13 lakh passengers and earning Rs 17 crore in revenue. Podanur Junction and Pollachi Junction tied for the third spot, each serving 5 lakh passengers. However, Podanur Junction generated slightly higher revenue at Rs 10 crore compared to Pollachi Junction's Rs 7 crore.
Karamadai station also handled 5 lakh passengers but generated a revenue of Rs 57 lakhs, placing it fifth in terms of revenue. Coimbatore North station served 1.6 lakh passengers and earned Rs 52 lakhs in revenue, securing the sixth position.
Interestingly, Kinathukadavu station, while handling fewer passengers at 39,000, still managed to generate Rs 14 lakhs in revenue, earning it the seventh spot in the district's top railway stations list.
This data highlights the significant role of railway infrastructure in Coimbatore district's transportation network and economy, with Coimbatore Junction clearly standing out as the primary rail hub in the region.
