Doctor and Wife Arrested for Medical Malpractice in Coimbatore's R.S. Puram

A doctor and his wife were arrested in Coimbatore's R.S. Puram for providing incorrect treatment to a 7-year-old boy with nerve weakness, leading to a bone fracture. The incident occurred at Ajay Neuro Clinic on Robertson Road.

Coimbatore: A doctor and his wife have been arrested in Coimbatore's R.S. Puram for medical malpractice and fraud. The couple, who claimed to be neurologists, provided incorrect treatment to a 7-year-old boy suffering from nerve weakness, resulting in a bone fracture.

Ramachandran, a 70-year-old resident of Chennai's Ambattur-Korattur area, brought his 7-year-old grandson Ixit to Ajay Neuro Clinic on Robertson Road, R.S. Puram, Coimbatore, for treatment. Dr. Balaji Chakravarthy, who examined the child, assured Ramachandran of a complete cure. Trusting the doctor, Ramachandran paid an initial fee of Rs. 2.7 lakhs for the treatment.

Following the treatment, the boy experienced severe leg pain. The clinic's experts then referred them to another hospital on Flower Market Road. Upon examination at the second hospital, it was discovered that the child had suffered a bone fracture in his leg.

Further investigation revealed that the R.S. Puram clinic had not provided proper treatment. Ramachandran filed a complaint at the R.S. Puram Police Station on September 16, seeking action against Dr. Balaji Chakravarthy and his wife Selvi for posing as neurologists and deceiving patients.

Based on the complaint, R.S. Puram police arrested Balaji Chakravarthy and Selvi on September 17. During the investigation, it was discovered that Balaji Chakravarthy was actually a physiotherapist, and Selvi was a neurotherapist. The couple had been impersonating doctors and providing unauthorized medical treatments.

The case has raised concerns about unqualified individuals practicing medicine and the need for stricter regulations in private medical establishments. The police are continuing their investigation to determine if there are more victims of the couple's fraudulent medical practice.
