Coimbatore Airport to Witness 10,000 Daily Passengers and 30 Flights in October After 4 Years

Coimbatore Airport is set to see a surge in daily passengers to 10,000 and flights to 30 in October, returning to pre-pandemic levels after four years, due to increased domestic and international services.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore International Airport is poised to witness a significant revival in passenger traffic and flight operations this October, according to industry sources. The airport is expected to handle around 10,000 passengers daily and see about 30 flight movements per day, reminiscent of the pre-pandemic era four years ago.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, Coimbatore Airport was operating 35 to 36 flights daily, catering to approximately 10,000 passengers. The current scenario shows a steady recovery, with the number of daily flights increasing to 27 in September. This upward trend is anticipated to continue into October.

Sathish, Director of Kongu Global Forum (KGF), provided insights into the airport's growth: "Coimbatore Airport, the second busiest in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, is experiencing a consistent increase in flight services. The Coimbatore-Hyderabad route, which previously had three daily flights, has now added an additional service. The Coimbatore-Goa service, which was temporarily suspended, is set to resume in October."

The new Coimbatore-Goa flight will depart from Coimbatore at 3:10 PM and arrive in Goa at 5:05 PM. The return flight will leave Goa at 5:25 PM and reach Coimbatore at 7:20 PM. Additionally, the Coimbatore-Abu Dhabi service has been extended to include the winter schedule.

Sathish further added, "The Coimbatore-Singapore route, currently served daily by Scoot Airlines, will see an additional flight starting October 27. With these developments, we expect the daily passenger count to reach 10,000 and the number of flights to increase to 30 by October, marking a return to pre-pandemic levels."

Looking ahead, November might bring more expansion in both domestic and international sectors. "We anticipate new services from Coimbatore to Delhi in the domestic segment, and to Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur in the international sector," Sathish stated.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of Coimbatore Airport's growth for the region: "The remarkable development of Coimbatore Airport will significantly contribute to the integrated growth of the Kongu region, encompassing seven surrounding districts."
