Udumalpet Municipality Commissioner Issues Warning: Meat Shops to Remain Closed on Gandhi Jayanti

Udumalpet Municipality Commissioner P. Balamurugan announces closure of meat shops on Gandhi Jayanti. Violators face penalties including confiscation, license cancellation, and legal action.

Tirupur: The Udumalpet Municipality Commissioner, P. Balamurugan, has issued a stern warning to meat shop owners within the municipal limits regarding the mandatory closure of their establishments on Gandhi Jayanti.

In an official statement, Commissioner Balamurugan announced that all meat shops, including those selling mutton, beef, chicken, and pork, as well as slaughterhouses, will be prohibited from operating on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The closure order applies to all areas under the jurisdiction of Udumalpet Municipality in Tiruppur district.

The commissioner emphasized that the slaughter of animals and the sale of meat products are strictly forbidden on this day. He cautioned that any violation of this order would result in severe consequences. Offenders will face immediate confiscation and destruction of meat products, cancellation of their business licenses, and imposition of fines. Additionally, legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the directive.

This measure is being implemented as a mark of respect for Mahatma Gandhi and his principles, particularly his advocacy for non-violence and vegetarianism. The municipality expects full cooperation from all meat vendors and shop owners in observing this one-day closure.

Residents are advised to plan their purchases accordingly, as no meat shops will be open for business on Gandhi Jayanti. The local authorities will be conducting inspections to ensure strict adherence to this order throughout the municipal area.
