Coimbatore District Collector Announces Helpline for Reporting Atrocities Against Scheduled Castes and Tribes

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announces toll-free helpline 18002021989 for reporting atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The initiative follows a state assembly announcement to establish assistance centers with legal counsel.

Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced the establishment of a toll-free helpline for reporting atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Coimbatore. This initiative comes in response to a recent announcement made in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by the Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare.

During the 2023-24 state assembly session, the Minister had promised to set up assistance centers equipped with technical facilities and legal advisors to address complaints of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Fulfilling this commitment, the district administration has now launched a dedicated helpline service.

Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati stated that individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who have been victims of caste-based atrocities, as well as those reporting on behalf of victims, can now register their complaints using the toll-free number 18002021989. This service will be available during office hours on all working days, including government holidays.

The helpline aims to facilitate easier reporting of cases, registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), and filing of appeals related to atrocities against these communities. This move is expected to enhance access to justice and support for vulnerable sections of society in Coimbatore district.
