Slew of activities mark Cycle Day at Cubbon Park

On a pleasant Sunday morning, with a gentle drizzle dousing the green environs of Cubbon Park, scores of people turned up to participate in the Cycle Day organised by The Hindu.

The programme, organised in association with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport and the Horticulture Department, saw the promotion of cycling, storytelling for children, demonstration of first aid through CPR, Zumba sessions for park-goers, and even a reading zone. Javagal Srinath, former cricketer, who flagged off the cycling rally, said, “It is very good to be here on a Sunday morning.” Among the participants was 11-year-old Vidya Raman. For her, the cycle became a way of shrugging off remnants of sleep. “I felt energetic and recharged after I cycled,” she said. For 10-year-old N.R. Arjun, Sunday’s cycling saw him vow to continue this every weekday at Cubbon Park.

Another participant, Vivek Dham, said it was “wonderful” to have people of similar interests coming together and taking part in events; while Nithin Gowda said cycling was all about “getting fit in a fun way”.

Zahir Laliwala, chief executive officer of Sportxs which lent nearly 50 cycles for free for park-goers to use, said, “Creating awareness about fitness and cycling is very important.”
