Western Ghats Wildlife Conservation Trust makes grand plans for Earth Day on April 22

There are several NGOs who work for the welfare of the children and the aged. Nature enthusiast, N. Parthiban, realized that protecting Mother Nature was the need of the hour. So, in 2015, he along with his friends formed the Western Ghats Wildlife Conservation Trust (WGWCT).

"This non-profit organization was formed with the aim of creating awareness about protecting Mother Nature. We organize several workshops and talks in schools and colleges, and teach the children how to conserve the nature. We also educate them on subjects like conservation of wildlife, harmful effects of air, water, soil, and noise pollution, importance of planting more trees, and the need to safeguard the wetlands, among other subjects," Parthiban says.

Recently, the NGO celebrated World Forest Day. As part of the celebrations, the 25 core members along with volunteers removed the nails from about 80 trees on the Race Course stretch. The founder of the trust shares with us that the nails that were removed weighed almost two-and-a-half-kilograms. Also, as a part of the Work) Forest Day, saplings were handed over to families. The parents were told to take care of the saplings like they would their children. For many of them, it was their first tree planting experience.

WGECT has plans of celebrating Earth Day on April 22. We are told that the WGWCT will organize a series of awareness programmes to sensitize the public on global warming. Currently, the activities of this trust are funded by the core members. This trust is open to members of the public who are interested in protecting the nature.
