Five held for selling pirated DVDs

The city police launched a crackdown on sale of pirated DVDs of newly released Tamil films and arrested five persons. It was following representation made to the Police Commissioner by the fan club of actor Vijay, alleging piracy of the actor’s newly released film Theri .

The Singanallur Police arrested C. Senthil Kumar (41), of Rangasamy Gounden Pudur, A. Ramnath (21), of Gandhi Nagar in Ondipudur, and B. Srinivasan (22), of Gandhipuram, and seized 129 pirated DVDs of new Tamil films. They were booked under sections 63(a) of the Copy Right Act and remanded.

Podanur Police arrested S. Abdul Nazar (27) of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Kuniyamuthur and seized six DVDs from him. He was booked under section 51 read with 65 of the Copy Right Act and remanded. Ukkadam Police arrested M. Mubarak Ali (36), of Bharathi Nagar. Karumbukadai seized nine DVDs from him, booked him under section 65 of Copy Right Act and released him on bail.

Arrested

The city police arrested two persons, including an 18-year-old youth, on Saturday for alleged theft of mobile phones from two persons in separate incidents.

In the first incident, the accused S. Karthi (18), of Ramnagar, borrowed a mobile phone from M. Gopalakrishnan (18) of Peelamedu Pudur on the Avinashi Road, to make a call. But on receiving the phone, he tried to run away and was caught red-handed by the public and handed over to the police. He was lodged in the Borstal School, at Pollachi, under judicial custody.

In the other incident B. Selvan (26), of Veerakeralam, was arrested by Race Course Police for theft of a mobile phone from a passenger who got down from the bus at the GKNM Hospital bus stop on the Avinashi Road.
