As the Chennai Metro Railworks Limited (CMRL) work is nearing completion, the city police have proposed to implement two-way traffic systems on EVR Salai with effect from Sunday.
Two way traffic will be allowed from Gengu Reddy subway to Ega on EVR Salai, Mayor Ramanathan Road and Gurusamy bridge with certain modifications.
Entry of vehicles from Gengu Reddy subway towards Ega is allowed. Vehicles coming from Gengu Reddy subway towards Dasaprakash will be allowed between 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. However, no right turn will be allowed from 7.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for vehicles heading towards Dasaprakash. They can take right on Spurtank Road x PT School junction itself and reach their destination via Egmore High Road, Udippi Point and Nair Bridge. Vehicles reaching Gengu Reddy subway x EVR Salai junction have to take a U turn at Burnaby junction to reach their destination.
At Flowers Road junction, vehicles cannot take a right turn to reach Ega. They have to take a U-turn at Gengu Reddy subway junction to reach Ega. Vehicles coming from Gengu Reddy subway junction to reach Vasu Street cannot take a right turn at Ega junction, instead they should go to Tailors Road and take a U-turn to reach their destination.
Right turn is not allowed for vehicles coming from Tailors Road towards Aminjikarai except during school hours — between 7.30 a.m and 8.30 a.m, and 2.30 p.m and 3.30 p.m. Those vehicles should reach Ega junction, take a U-turn to reach their destination.
With two-way traffic on Spurtank Road, vehicles coming from Egmore High Road towards Gengu Reddy subway cannot take a right turn at P.T. School junction. They shoud take a U-turn at Casa major Road and Spurtank Road junction to reach their designation.
Vehicles coming from EVR Salai via Gurusamy Bridge reaching Chetpet junction cannot take a right turn towards Harrington Road. Instead they should take a U-turn at Sterling Point to reach Harrington Road. Vehicles coming from Sterling Point to reach Spurtank Road cannot take a right turn at Chetpet junction. They have to use the service road via Kusalambal Kalyana Mandapam.
Vehicles reaching Chetpet junction via Harrington Road can go straight, take left and right to reach their destination. Straight, left and right turn is allowed for vehicles coming from Spurtank Road towards Chetpet signal. Pedestrian crossing is allowed on EVR Salai in front of the Police Housing Corporation.
