Farmer arrested for attacking wife, son with sickle in Kanuvai

A 48-year-old man was arrested for attacking his wife and son with a sickle when they tried to return home after a year. On Sunday, when A Kannamal, 45, and her 17-year-old son tried to enter the house located in Kanuvai, Kannamal's husband N Anandkumar attacked them both with a sickle.

The son saved his mother and in the process got injured. His little finger was cut and he was admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

As per police officials, Kannamal and Anandkumar had been married for over 20 years and has a 17-year-old son. Anandkumar was a farmer while Kannamal was a homemaker. They had some petty quarrels and the couple decided to stay apart for a year until the problems were resolved.

The main issue was the frequent quarrel between Anandkumar and his son. Kannamal who is also an ardent believer of astrology was told that if they conducted some poojas and the father and the son stayed apart for a few days, the problems between them would reduce. She began residing with her sister in Thudiyalur and her son also completed his Class 12 board exams.

She alleged that in the meantime, Anandkumar's family influenced him and made him antagonistic towards her. Kannamal said to the police that there was property issue within the family as well and so they plotted against her.

When Anandkumar refused to take Kannamal back, she filed a case in the family court and got an order in her favour. She got her residential right and went back to her residence on Sunday. At that time, the quarrel between the couple turned ugly and Anandkumar attacked them with a sickle.

A case was registered under Sections 307, 294 (B) and Section 341. Thudiyalur police officials have arrested Anandkumar and have remanded him in judicial custody.
