Raid opposed by B. Sabarinath, secretary of Coimbatore Jewellers

Jewellers in the city submitted a petition to the police and the election officials on Tuesday seeking discussion with the associations before taking action on manufacturers or retailers if there are complaints. According to B. Sabarinath, secretary of Coimbatore Jewellers’ Association, they had made a request to the District Collector on Monday and they submitted a petition on Tuesday. Raids were conducted on the showroom of a small-scale jewellery manufacturer on Monday. He is now apprehensive of continuing business. It takes about six months to make one lakh nose studs. The officials could have had a discussion with the jewellery associations before conducting raids on the premises of the manufacturer.

“We have requested the officials to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future,” he said.
