50-year-old yoga master walks on hands to file his nomination

A 50-year-old yoga master, M Chathrapathy, showed off his yoga skills, walking on his hands to file his nomination papers for Thondamuthur assembly constituency on Thursday. Entering the returning officer's room in this way, he told the media that his aim is to promote yoga across the state.

"I have seen many young adults who are unhealthy. Youngsters are not focusing on their health. I want to create awareness about yoga which keeps the mind and body healthy," he said.

He plans to approach voters from Saturday and talk to them about physical fitness. "My friends and family advised me against contesting, stating that this was an unnecessary expenditure. But I want to popularize yoga," he added.

M Chathrapathy, a bachelor from Kovaipudur, has a diploma in yoga and conducts classes in various parts of the district. In 2014, he had contested for post of mayor in Coimbatore city municipal corporation. His symbol depicted two swords. He was able to garner only 750 votes. This time around, he hopes to fare better, he said.

"I cannot compete on the same level with candidates who have money and power. I will do my best. I know that this effort will pay off some day," he said.
