DMK worker kills self after wife attends Jayalalithaa rally

Upset with his wife and children for having attended the public meeting of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa held on Codissia ground at Peelamedu on Sunday, a DMK member killed himself at his residence in Thirumalayampalayam on Monday night.

Police sources said P Raman, 40, was a DMK party member and was a daily wager. On Monday, when Raman went for DMK campaign work, he was questioned by this felllow cadres for letting his family members attend a rival party meet. He was teased by some of them. His relatives said Raman, who was an ardent DMK supporter, was extremely upset about the issue.

"He got drunk and fought with his wife R Murugammal on Monday around 11pm. The wife sent her children to sleep with their grandparents. Raman locked the door of his room after the fight. In the morning when she tried opening the door, she found out that Raman had hanged himself," said the relative.

Police officials said that the couple often fought with each other. Raman would drink and get into quarrels with his wife at home. "Even that night, they got into a fight and he later took the extreme step," said a police officer. Raman had two daughters.
