Amit Shah cancels visit to Coimbatore due to work

BJP president Amit Shah cancelled his visit to Coimbatore on Monday, disappointing cadres of the saffron party, who had gathered at VOC grounds for the public meeting.

BJP men said that Shah had to cancel the trip as he was held up by an important task at the last moment.

However, union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and general secretary Muralidhar Rao made up for Shah's absence by pepping the spirit of the cadres with their scathing attack on DMK, AIADMK and Congress. While much of their speeches was in line with the template of BJP's earlier campaign speeches, projecting the saffron party as alternative to Dravidian parties, they harped on problems faced by the state's industrial sector, given the fact that Coimbatore was an industrial city.

The present state government is deep rooted in corruption not congenial to development," said J P Nadda. He alleged that if DMK was involved in 2G and Aircel Maxis scams, its ally Congress had a long list of scandals to it's name while BJP was offering a clean government ever since it took over in 2014. He said ever since Modi took over, not a single accusation of corruption has been made against the Centre.

"Industrial growth is slowing down, agriculture is behind and infrastructure is not happening,'' he alleged. Tamil Nadu has also become unsafe due to the increasing crime rate," he said. Muralidhar Rao also hit out at DMK and Congress as 'partners in corruption.' He alleged that chief minister Jayalalithaa was not accessible to industrialists, women and students, when they were in trouble, while DMK leader Karunanidhi was no better.
