Vote for DMK-Congress combine for State to become prosperous: EVKS

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.KS. Elangovan has urged voters to vote for the candidates of the DMK-Congress combine for the state to be prosperous.

Campaigning in Coimbatore on Wednesday in support of the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency candidate, Mayura S. Jayakumar, he said that in the city once known as the Manchester of South India, not a day passes off with one industry or the other closing down.

In the past five years, the prices of essential commodities had shot up so much that the common man suffered. Power consumption charges had doubled. All this was due the maladministration of the Chief Minister who was unavailable for people in times of need.

During the chief ministership of K. Kamaraj, the government opened a school every five km. Now the government opened a liquor shop one every street. The result was that even school students were addicted to liquor.

In the Coimbatore South constituency, jewellery manufacturers suffered because of the wrong policies of the Central Government, which had imposed one per cent excise duty. The State Government had not come to the rescue of the jewellers. The Chief Minister only said that she had written to the Centre in this regard.

She was only writing letters and not accessible to people to hear out their grievances, Mr. Elangovan said.

The voters should not consider this to be yet another election. It was for the betterment of the State, which only the DMK-Congress could provide. Mr. Elangovan also campaigned for Congress candidate in the Singanallur Assembly constituency. Earlier in the day, he campaigned in the Nilgiris district.
