Three arrested for extortion

The Anamalai police arrested three persons for extortion over previous enmity. The police said that three months ago the complainant, S. Shahid (25), a rice trader of Vandithavalam in Palakkad district, Kerala, accidentally hit the bike of T. Suresh Kumar (31), an electrician from Ganapathypalayam, while taking the car in reverse in front of an eatery at Meenahskhipuram in Anamalai.

On Tuesday night, Shahid came to the same eatery when Suresh Kumar and his friends T. Boopathy (24), G. Rajesh Kumar (20) and M. Jeeva (22) picked a quarrel with Shahid, demanded money for damaging Sureh’s two-wheeler and also allegedly intimidated him. On a complaint lodged by Shahid, the police booked the four under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested three of them. A search was underway for Jeeva.
