Daughter of tailor secures state 2nd; wants to become an IAS officer

As usual, early in the morning, S. Narayanasamy from Kottur-Malayandipattinam in Pollachi, Coimbatore, opens his humble tailoring shop and starts his sewing machine. But, there was an air of excitement, because unlike other business days, Wednesday, the 25th of May is no normal day for him or his family. They are eagerly awaiting the Class X results. His daughter, N. Janani, a student of the MC Government Girls Higher Secondary School, had written the exams this year.

When the results were finally announced, the family was jubilant. Their daughter had secured second rank in the state! She also was the district topper among government school students.

It indeed was a proud and happy moment for the family overall, and a big boost to a budding career. With her focus sharply fixed on becoming an IAS officer, Janani, who calls ADGP Sylendra Babu and IAS officer Vijayakumar her rolemodels, wants to bring a positive change to the society once she achieves her dream.

Janani is not the only academic superstar of the family. Her elder brother N. Surya Kumar had also cleared his Class XII exams with flying colours, and secured 1149 marks.

"Both are very naughty at home. But they always give us hope and have proved that our future is safe in their hands, by securing such good marks," says Narayanasamy, the sole breadwinner of the family.

Apart from her adorable playfulness, it is the hard work that she had put in, and the support her family and teachers, that have helped Janani achieve the feat.

"My teachers were very encouraging. They knew that I had it in me and it is their experience and the love of my parents which has brought me this far," says Janani, who is also a divisional-level chess player, and an avid bookworm.

Although Janani was confident of a good score, the state rank was something that she herself didn't expect. "She actually felt bad after the exams because she thought she had not done well. But the results have proven her mettle," adds her proud father.

Feeling proud of her achievement after notching up a state rank, Janani is keen about her future and wants to move to the next level, by not letting her achievement go to her head.
