No scope for any bad feeling towards Tamil Nadu: Karnataka minister

Karnataka always wanted a smooth relationship with Tamil Nadu and there is no scope for any bad feeling between the two states, Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said today.

Replying to a question on the approach of Karnataka government towards the newly sworn-in AIADMK Government, particularly Cauvery water dispute, Dinesh said the water problem was raised only when there was deficit rains, due to which water release was also a problem for his state.

Even if the state was constructing check dam, particularly in an area like Mekedatu, it was only to store the excess rain water in ponds and lakes for future use and never to block the inflow to Tamil Nadu, he said. Similarly, Tamil Nadu can also start constructing dams and check dams for the purpose of filling lakes, he said. "Moreover, there is a tribunal order, which we have to follow and let me assure that there is no bad feeling towards Tamil Nadu," he said. Dinesh, here to highlight 'failures of two-year-old NDA Government,' to party workers, claimed that BJP failed to fulfil its poll promises, including on bringing back black money. "The economy is in shambles, farmers and agriculture sector is suffering, there is no growth in manufacturing sector and also FDI has come down substantially, despite Modi's foreign trips and Indian investments to other countries, showing upward trend, during two years," he said. He alleged that the NDA government was discriminating between BJP ruled States and Non-BJP ruled states. "There is one rule for BJP ruled states and another set of rules for Opposition-ruled states," he said. He alleged that the Centre failed to provide adequate funds to tackle drought in various states, including Karnataka. On BJP MP Subramanian Swamy's claims about involvement of Congress leaders in scams, including 2G, Adarsh and AgustaWestland, he said "government is his party's and it is welcome to order an inquiry and punish the guilty. Why is the government hesitating?," he asked.
