Flower show attracts record number of visitors

1.25 lakh people have visited the three-day flower show, setting a record for the most number of visitors. The flower show concluded today.

The Annual Flower Show is a major attraction during summer holidays for tourists, both domestic and foreign, who visit Ooty. This time, for the 120th show, the Horticulture department had created a replica of the Madras Central railway station, with over one lakh coronation.

The Nilgiris District Collector, P. Shankar, who visited the show at the sprawling Government Botanical Garden, told reporters that this year there was record number of visitors, crossing 1.25 lakh, until 3.00 PM today. This is 40,000 more than the last year and the number could increase, as visitors are allowed up to 7.00 PM, he said.

The Chief Minister's Rolling Trophy this year was awarded to DSSC, Wellington, who had put up a flower stall. 640 trophies were given to the participants.
