A clean-up drive at Singanallur Lake as a part of World Environment Day celebration

World Environment Day was celebrated all over the world on June 5th. As part of the celebration in Coimbatore city various NonGovernment Organization's volunteers gathered to clean up the Lake at Singanallur. The NGO's which took part in the clean-up drive are Animal Rescuers, Green Global Trust, Agni Siragugal, Sixth Sense Foundation, and also Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation .

The beautiful lake which is home for a number of beautiful local and migratory birds like the spot-billed pelicans, painted storks, pied wagtails, and spot-billed ducks are now piled up with plastic waste and sewage water and a large number of liquor bottles. Not only waste is dumped but the lake is being encroached and many buildings are built on its bund which is a major threat.

Totally 70 members had gathered up for the clean up drive and it is said that it will take minimum one month for cleaning the river.

Hope the city residents take this as a final call and act like a responsible citizen to keep the environment away from any type of man-made threats.
