Botanical Garden Architect? Ooty pays homage

Today is the 140th death anniversary of William G McIver who was the architect of the world famous Botanical Gardens in Ooty.

Horticulture officials paid homage to his cemetery erected by his wife on June 8, 1876, inside St. Stephens’ Church Ooty.

This site was neglected for over a century and was eventually identified through the good work done by Nilgiri Documentation Centre director Mr. Venugopal Dharmalingam. But sadly it remains unmaintained.

"The department will work towards maintaining his graveyard," committed Meera Bhai, the Assistant Director of Horticulture
