No one can forget the long unending  power cuts of the past. But those power cuts are definitely bringing in the change that is much required in the society. People have started opting for solar rooftops to meet the rising power requirements without any hassle.

TANGEDCO which covers Coimbatore ,Tirupur and Nilgiris district states that  up to 700 solar rooftop installations  with a capacity of 1.3 MW (between 2014 and March 31, 2016) which includes installations with net metering and those in three phase service connections and single phase connections.

The government is providing the subsidy for this rooftop system.Coimbatore city has nearly 500 installations with a subsidy from TamilNadu energy development agency and 74 without subsidy. Sulfur has a residential colony with 45 houses each having solar rooftop. Tirupur has 40 to 45 solar farms. Nilgiris have four installations and mostly cottages are going for it.

Educational institutions and most of the textile mills and large-scale industries are using this method to meet their demands. The industries are now trying out the possibilities of putting windmills and solar energy panels.
