City Corporation School Students become part of Bala Janaagraha Programme

Bala Janaagraha is a practical civic education program which aims at empowering the school children of urban India with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to develop a deep sense of ownership and responsibility towards their society and neighborhood. Many private schools around the city are already part of this programme.

Corporation Commissioner, K. Karthikeyan has shown the keen interest in implementing the programme at government schools around the city.

In the initial phase, 5 schools were selected for the programme. An NGO from Bangalore will guide the students on civic administration and educate them on ways to solve the civic issues.

An introductory session was started on Friday, each session will be for 40 minutes and 24 such sessions will be conducted at each school. The initial training will be handled by the teachers. An interactive session is also be planned, where the students have to choose a civic issue and put forth their suggestions and ideas to resolve it.

Competitions will be conducted for students from different schools within the city, around 40,000 students from 527 schools will take part in the programme.

‘I am very excited to be part of this programme and it has created a positive transformation, says M. Nandagopal,  a student from the Corporation high school, Selvapuram. The City corporation commissioner has asked the students to make use of this opportunity and actively participate in the programme.
