5 Tamil Nadu Fishermen Rescued by Sri Lankan Fishermen

Rameswaram: Five Tamil Nadu fishermen were rescued by their Sri Lankan counterparts on Thursday after their boat developed a snag off the island nation's coastal waters.

The fishermen were struggling in mid-sea off Velvettithurai coast after their boat developed a snag. They were rescued by the Sri Lankan fishermen, Joint director of fisheries, Subbraj told PTI.

The fishermen, all of whom are from Vedranyam hamlet, were later taken to the army camp at Valvettithurai, he said.

He said it was not yet clear whether the fishermen would be arrested and remanded by Sri Lankan police or they would be released and sent back to India.

"It will be known only tomorrow," he said.
