The impact of plastic pollution poses a hazardous threat to the environment. Despite, implementing state of art waste management systems, declaring plastic free zones and awareness campaigns, the recalcitrant attitude of the people puts the government in an intractable situation to control plastic wastes.
In KK Pudur road, Kovaipudur at an empty ground possessed by the government, the locals have been dumping all kinds of wastes, especially plastic and has been left uncleared for the past three months. There is also a TASMAC opposite to the dumping place, the people who use the TASMAC have dumped this place with used liquor bottles, plastic cups and water packs.
The residents and shop owners of KK Pudur alleged that due to the lack of dustbins, the locals have cultivated the habit of dumping waste in the empty land. The stinking smell emanating from the wastes has created an uneasy feel for the pedestrians and residents.
The residents of KK Pudur have escalated the issue to the Corporation officers and awaiting for a remedy to improve the sanitation standards in their area.
