The 4th edition of the India International Coir Fair (IICF), jointly organised by MSME and Coir board was inaugurated today at Codissia by Kalraj Mishra, Union Cabinet Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.

While addressing the press Mr. Kalraj Mishra emphasized that during the year 2015-2016, manufacturing and exports of coir products have incredibly increased in India with an impressive global recognition. In the current year, new coir manufacturing units have been installed at Thanjavur, Bhuvaneshwar and at few more places across India and 25 new units are about to get installed in this financial year, he stated.
He also highlighted that the production capacity has substantially increased to 9.3% paired with the sizeable increase in exports. He assured that the government will take necessary steps to fulfil the economic needs of the manufacturing units. He inculcated that the state governments are solely responsible for the closure of many coir units across South India.
The 4-day exhibit fair will feature the wide range of attractive coir products, seminar, and a buyer-seller international meet. On 15th July, the Coir Kranti Express will be inaugurated at Coimbatore, however, the debut journey will commence on 18th July and will touch base all 120 states across India.
