City Police crack a long-pending murder case


The City Police have successfully cracked a long-pending murder case that happened near GCT College in the month of March 2016.

City Commissioner Amalraj convened a press meet today at his Office to brief on the case. Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi, Asst Commissioner Ramesh Krishna along with Cops from the Special team were present at the meet.

On March 7th, Ethiraj (62), a taxi driver was found suspiciously dead in his car near GCT College.

His post-mortem report revealed that he was choked to death using a cloth. The police were minutely investigating the case but were unable to conclude on the suspect or on the motive of the murder.

Two special teams led by Assistant Commissioner R.Rameshkrishnan were deputed by Police Commissioner R.Amalraj and Deputy Commissioner S.Lakshmi to investigate the case.



The teams investigated earnestly on all the possible clues leading to the accused. 

CCTV footages, statements by the deceased's family members and his friends at taxi stands were collected by the police to derive at clues on the motive of the murder and the accused.

The CCTV footages revealed that a stranger along with his family boarded Ethiraj's car on the night before the murder.

The special teams concluded on the possibilities that the accused could be hailing from somewhere in Kerala. And hence seeked the help of Palakkad Police department to get closer to the accused. 

Yesterday evening, the special team nabbed the accused at Tiruvilla, Kerala. 

The accused Anoop (26) was on a family trip to Ooty, he had booked Ethiraj's cab for his return journey. As Ethiraj had night blindness, he offered Anoop to drive the car. Anoop's habit of spitting tobacco infuriated Ethiraj, which lead to a tussle between the two. I

n a fit of rage, Anoop strangulated Ethiraj using his wife's dupatta. Later, he abandoned the car along with the corpse, near GCT College road and eloped with his family to Kerala.
