Singanallur lake restoration: 'Vetti Veru' and 'Kora grass' planted across the bund

The Singanallur Bund restoration project was kickstarted by the Coimbatore Corporation along with NGO's on 18th June 2016.

On 2nd July, the organizers planted a few hundred Palm trees along the buffer zone of the bund. They have also been maintained well by the NGO's on a regular basis.

Today, around eight NGO's along with Coimbatore Corporation have taken up the task of cleaning all the eight lakes around Coimbatore.

30 volunteers from various NGOs today planted 'Vetiver' and 'Kora grass' along the buffer zones of the bund.

'Vetti Veru' helps to curb soil erosion and strengthens the water beds, it also aids in dissolving the pollutants and hence we can expect a cleaner water bund, soon' said an environmentalist.

Coimbatore City Mayor P.Rajkumar flagged off the initiative. He also appreciated the NGO's for their earnest dedication and enthusiasm towards revamping the water bunds in the City.

Dr.K. Ramasamy, VC, TNAU also took part in this laudable initiative. He stated that apart from reducing soil erosion, these plants after growing up will provide good means of revenue too.

Staffs from Corporation, TNAU and Volunteers of various NGO's actively participated in the rejuvenation initiative of the Singanallur lake.
