Air Algerie plane sparks scare after it disappears from radar

An Air Algerie passenger plane sparked fears it had crashed after the airline declared a mid-air emergency and then went off the radar, reports the mirror.co.uk.

Air Algerie Boeing 737-600 took off from Algiers today on a flight to Marseille. But shortly after take-off, it let out an emergency call.

The flight radar clearly showed the plane took a u-turn and headed back towards the point from where it took off. But just before arriving, it mysteriously went off the radar.

However, it was revealed later on that the coverage of ADS-B, a system to track plane’s location, was limited in the area where the plane reportedly disappeared.

Subsequently, the media in Algeria reported that it landed safely in Algiers after suffering technical failure. Meanwhile, the airline also said in a statement that the plane landed safely in the Algerian capital Saturday around 30 minutes after takeoff and no one was injured.
