Isha Gramotsavam 2016 is a celebration of village life showcasing the essence of rural Tamil Nadu through an elaborate display of rural games, art, drama, dance, music and food specialties.
The event aims at highlighting the role of sports in rural life and a community rejuvenation program. The program was kick-started yesterday at the Isha Foundation, Vellingiri.
Tiruvannamalai, Rajapalayam, Karur, Mettur, Erode, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Alandurai-Coimbatore, Virudhachalam, and Tirupattur are the centers at which the event was flagged off. At each of these events, 8 village-level volleyball and throwball teams will compete for the Divisional Winners and Runners-Up positions.
Activities like Uriyadi (breaking the pot), Valukku Maram (greased pole climbing), tug-of-war, 3-legged races, rope pulling and many more thrilling rural sports activities were hosted at the show. The participants enthusiastically participated in the events and enthralled the audience. The finalists from the event will be awarded trophies at the grand finale on September 4th at the Codissia Grounds.
