An hour ago, the Auto Rickshaw drivers Union of Coimbatore, staged a protest in front of the RTO office (Bala Sundaram Road) demanding action against the private companies, who operate auto's at lower prices than the proposed rates by the Government.

The protestors remarked that there are totally 11,000 auto rickshaw drivers in the City and presently, they operate at a minimum rate of Rs.25/- as proposed by the Tamilnadu government guidelines.
'The private companies operate at a minimum charge of Rs. 20/- and lure customers, such unlawful practices have been drastically affecting our livelihood' they alleged.
Hence, they petitioned to the RTO to ban the operators, who do not comply to the Government's pricing norms. And also initiate steps to establish uniform pricing norms as it adversely affects their livelihood.
