An emergency meeting was convened at the Corporation by the City Mayor P. Rajkumar for passing new resolutions. 24 new resolutions were passed during the meet in the presence of the councillors.
The DMK councillors raised their concern on the Kerala Government's intent to build dam across Siruvani at Agali and insisted the Mayor to pass this as a resolution. The AIADMK councillors opposed DMK's demand and stated that there is no need to include this as a resolution with immediate effect. Soon, the issue heated up leading to a scuffle between the two parties.
The Mayor adjourned the meet by rejecting the demand of DMK councillors for passing a resolution. The agitated DMK Councillors staged a protest at the meeting for not considering their plea.
Samy from DMK stated that the people have lost faith in the governance of the TN government due to their negligent attitude towards responding to the letters sent by the Kerala Government on the Siruvani issue. He also proposed that the State Government should intervene in the issue immediately and initiate steps to stop Kerala Government from proceeding towards construction as it will adversely effects the livelihood of the people and the farmers community.
