The nation-wide bandh announced by various central trade unions over a 12-point charter of demands has not much affected the routine life of the people in the City. Public transport facilities are reported to be working as usual, though 50% of the autos are on strike. The bus transport to Kerala was interrupted, hence the Ukkadam bus depot was seen empty without the usual passenger rush.
The trade unions of various departments staged their agitation at the Collectorate urging the Government to fulfil their 12-point demands, the protest halted the traffic for an hour around the area. Close to 1200 protestors were arrested by the Police at the Collectorate.
