The Minister for Railways, Thiru. Suresh Prabhu was in the city today to inaugurate and launch new services at the Coimbatore railway junction. Thiru. S.P. Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme and other state legislative members and Senior railways authorities were present at the inauguration event.

The Railways Minister, Suresh Prabhu inaugurated two Air Conditioned executive passenger lounge, A/C Dormitory and additional A/C Waiting & retiring room at the Coimbatore railway station. He also laid foundation for the following services, multilevel car parking, escalator facilities and sky walk. He reported in the press meet that, the Ministry of Railways will soon incorporate new infrastructural facilities at all railway stations in the state of Tamil Nadu.

He evoked that the UPA government had allotted Rs. 523 crores for the railways in the year 2012-2013, but the present BJP Government had allotted Rs. 1555 crores in the year 2015-16 and further extended to Rs. 1641 in the year 2016-17.
The long-standing appeal of the people of Coimbatore to introduce an additional express train between Bangalore to Coimbatore would be started well before the Diwali festive season, he assured. And the passenger train between Mettupalayam and Coimbatore would also commence soon, he said. The Shatabdi Express train between Bangalore to Coimbatore will regain service shortly, he said.
