Kovai Utsav 2016, a 5-day expo was organized by the Small Industries Product Promotion Organization (SIPPO) in association with National Jute Board and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The expo was inaugurated on 2nd September by S.Asokan, General Manager of District Industries Centre in the presence of K. Palanivel Murugan, General Manager of SIPPO.
Totally 15 stalls were featured at the expo by women entrepreneurs hailing from, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Madurai. Hand-made products, bangles, earrings, jute handbags, lunch bags, purses,j ute wall hangings, artistic pen stands, folders, linens and dress materials were displayed at the stalls. Majority of the products are made of jute.

Mrs. Sujatha Nachippan, Proprietor of Diamond Jute Decor, a regular exhibitor at this expo, stated that the ‘Kovai Utsav’ is a great platform for her to meet the customers directly and helps them know the preferences and taste of the people and improvise their design accordingly. ‘Compared to last year, this year, the crowd was little lesser due to the festive season’, she said.

Another exhibitor K. Kalapa of Honey Jute Bags from Madurai, ‘these expos support women entrepreneurs by helping them market their products. The foot falls were not too great this year, but the visitors have shown tremendous response towards jute products, it’s very encouraging’ she said.

The expo is open from 11.00 am to 8.00 pm and today is the last day of the exhibition.
